Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The Journal of Computation Physics and Earth Science (JoCPES) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, and academic quality.

JoCPES uses internationally recognized principles of scholarly publishing, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as a framework for handling publication-ethics issues involving authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher.

Ethical Standards

Authorship, Originality, and Research Integrity

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made meaningful scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript. All listed authors must approve the submitted and final versions. Guest, gift, honorary, and ghost authorship are not permitted.

Manuscripts submitted to JoCPES must represent original scholarly work. Plagiarism, substantial undisclosed text recycling, duplicate publication, and simultaneous submission to multiple journals are prohibited.

Authors must not fabricate, falsify, selectively manipulate, or intentionally misrepresent research data, results, images, figures, or other scientific evidence.

Data, Citations, and Conflicts of Interest

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the data presented in their manuscripts. Articles should include a Data Availability Statement describing whether and how the supporting data may be accessed.

Relevant scholarly literature must be cited accurately and appropriately. Citation manipulation, excessive or irrelevant citation requests, coordinated citation practices, and other attempts to artificially influence citation metrics are prohibited.

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal interests that could reasonably influence the research, review process, or editorial decision.

Human Participants, Animals, and Informed Consent

Research involving human participants, personal or sensitive data, or animals must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical requirements.

Where required, authors must provide information regarding ethics committee approval, approval numbers, and informed consent. JoCPES may request supporting documentation when necessary.

Reviewer Responsibilities and Confidentiality

Submitted manuscripts and associated materials must be treated as confidential. Reviewers should provide objective, constructive, timely, and professional assessments.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage and must disclose relevant conflicts of interest. Manipulation of the peer-review process is considered serious publication misconduct.

Editorial Independence and Conduct

Editors evaluate manuscripts based on scientific quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal's scope, and ethical compliance.

Editorial decisions must remain independent and must not be influenced by nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political beliefs, or other irrelevant personal characteristics.

Editors must protect manuscript confidentiality, disclose relevant conflicts of interest, and withdraw from handling manuscripts when an appropriate conflict exists.

Investigation of Ethical Concerns

JoCPES takes credible allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously, whether concerns arise before or after publication.

Potential misconduct may include plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, authorship manipulation, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, confidentiality breaches, or peer-review manipulation.

The Editorial Team may request clarification, original data, supporting documentation, or other information and may contact relevant institutions when appropriate. Applicable COPE guidance may be consulted during investigations.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

JoCPES is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Errors identified after publication may be addressed through an Erratum, Corrigendum, or Correction, depending on the nature of the issue.

An article may be retracted when major errors, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research, serious publication misconduct, or other circumstances substantially undermine the reliability or integrity of the publication.

An Expression of Concern may be issued when serious concerns exist but an investigation has not yet reached a definitive conclusion.

Complaints and Editorial Appeals

Authors, reviewers, readers, or other parties may submit legitimate complaints concerning editorial procedures, publication ethics, or published content to the JoCPES Editorial Office.

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by providing a clear and scientifically justified explanation. Appeals will be considered fairly but do not guarantee reversal of the original decision.

Preprints and Repository Policy

JoCPES generally permits manuscripts that have previously been deposited as legitimate academic preprints, provided that they have not been formally published as peer-reviewed journal articles elsewhere.

Authors should disclose relevant preprints during submission. Appropriate versions of published articles may also be deposited in institutional or subject repositories in accordance with the journal's copyright and licensing policies.

Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted technologies must comply with the JoCPES Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Policy.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, data, and scientific content of their manuscripts. Substantive use of Generative AI must be appropriately disclosed.

Editors and reviewers must also protect the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts when using AI-assisted technologies.

JoCPES is committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record.
Ethical concerns will be evaluated based on available evidence, applicable journal policies, the circumstances of each case, and internationally recognized publication-ethics guidance.
